We always boast that our SIQEV seal guarantees an extra virgin olive oil of superior quality, among other things, because it is produced through mechanical processes that often result in an ecological product. Well, this production process not only affects the quality of our oils but also the quality of our land: if it has the SIQEV seal, it is a sustainable EVOO.
Why is it a sustainable product?
A sustainable product is one that has been generated respecting the environment, always using non-polluting processes and optimising both energy and human resources.
EVOO is, intrinsically, a sustainable product because for an olive oil to be extra virgin it must be produced using traditional production methods, and this implies that they are minimally mechanised or industrialised.
EVOO cultivation using ecological or integrated production
Ecological cultivation is an agricultural system based on the production of high-quality food, but always respecting the ecosystem and preserving the fertility of the soil through the optimal use of natural resources.
Thus, the oils produced by our mills are made by mechanical processes, since only in this way the properties of the olives are respected and preserved. In the more than 96,000 hectares of our olive groves, 70% are organically cultivated or under integrated production.
This means that they use and ensure long-term sustainable agriculture, as they introduce biological and chemical control methods that preserve environmental protection and agricultural productivity. In addition to the operations carried out for the handling, packaging, transformation and labelling of our products which are also managed in this same system.
