On 29 th June, Italy hosted the 62 nd meeting of the Advisory Committee on OliveOil and Table Olives, where key issues in the sector were discussed.
QvExtra! participated as an observer in the 62 nd meeting of the AdvisoryCommittee, where relevant issues of the olive oil and table olives were discussed with all the participating countries. During the working session, QvExtra! had the opportunity to defend the SIQEV physico-chemical standards as future general standards for the category of extra virgin olive oil and to advocate for more stringent requirements in the current regulations.
This meeting, organised with the support of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, was chaired by Javad Mirarabrazi, IOC Advisory Member President; Absessalem Loued, AC President; Gennaro Sicolo, AC Vice-President for Olive Oil; Jaime Lillo, IOC Director; and M’Hmaed Belasla, AC Vice-President for Table Olives.
It was also attended by important personalities in the sector, such as Mr. Andoni Olano, Mrs. Mercedes Fernández, Mr. Lhassane Sikaoui, Mrs. María Juárez, Mr. Mustapha Sepetci, Mr. F. Javier Larraona, Mr, Pierfederico La Notte, Mr. Rafael Pico, Mr. Ricardo Miguelañez, Mr. Joe Profaci and Mrs. Carmen Lence.
The various activities carried out in the previous meeting and the projects for the next Members’ Council were presented. Among the many topics discussed were the Olive Tree Cultivation Unit, Olive Oil Technologies and the Environment, the Promotion and Economic Issues Unit and the Olive Observatory. Xylella fastidiosa infestation and MOSH MOAH were also discussed. The meeting was rounded off with a technical visit to the olive growing areas in Tuscany.
