QvExtra! submits technical dossier to EFSA to obtain VIRGIN OLIVE OILS health claim
under the claim:
“THE PHENOLS IN VIRGIN OLIVE OIL REDUCE THE RISK OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE”
QvExtra!, who have been working on the health claim on the risk of disease (Art. 14) for more than 2 years, have just submitted the relevant technical dossier to the EU. With the support of the association’s Scientific Committee, made up of a group of internationally renowned doctors, the management of QvExtra! together with Dr María del Carmen Millán (CSIC) and the University of Seville, prepared the technical dossier required by EFSA.
If QvExtra! were granted the right to state on its labels that virgin olive oil reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, it would be a milestone for the entire sector, given that the association has rejected the intellectual property right by a unilateral decision of all its members. The application is currently in the administrative trait, under the review by AESAN,
waiting to be passed on to EFSA for technical valorisation in the coming weeks.
The IOC, and in particular its Executive Director, Jaime Lillo, has given its unconditional support to this project, meeting with QvExtra! and proposing a collaboration agreement to continue investing in projects to promote Extra Virgin Olive
Oil. In the coming weeks, QvExtra! will also hold a meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which has also shown great interest, as evidenced by the statements made by Minister Planas in relation to this health claim.
On 24 September, in Córdoba, QvExtra! will hold the II Conference on the Nutritional and Healthy Labelling of EVOOs in the EU, with limited capacity, where the main theme of the session will be the PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT ON HEALTY LABELLING OF HEALTHY LABELLING OF VIRGIN OLIVE OILS and the analysis of the current situation of the same.
