It is well known that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is one of the most recommended and beneficial food products for the body. It is a healthy, delicious and scientifically recommended product whose consumption has become more common in our diet over the decades.
But do you know why? The answer lies in the polyphenols, which are antioxidant compounds in charge of slowing down our cells’ aging and make olive oil the best fat in the world.
In this QvExtra article, we will share some information on their composition, properties, benefits and the reason why they are so essential for an EVOO in order to bear the SIQEV seal. In a nutshell: “the higher amount of polyphenols, the better for the consumer”.
Properties and benefits of polyphenols
There are many varieties of plant-derived polyphenols, depending on the food. In olive oil, we find a type of polyphenol called ‘tyrosol’.
Although they are not essential in order for us to carry out vital functions, polyphenols found in Extra Virgin Olive Oil help to slow down the wear and tear on our bodies. In other words, it helps our body to maintain its strength for a longer time.
This essential factor, along with the ones shown below, makes EVOO consumption synonymous with good health.
- Polyphenols protect the blood vessels walls, improving blood circulation and, as a result, the health of our heart.
- They have a powerful anti-inflammatory action.
- They attack the free radicals that cause cells to age.
- They strengthen our brain health and protect us from dementia.
- They prevent the appearance of tumours.
Did you know that SIQEV EVOOs contain a larger amount of polyphenols?
In addition to the excellent flavour and scent, other important factors that differentiate SIQEV EVOOs from any others have to do with the amount of polyphenols they contain.
At QvExtra!, we have been working for many years to offer you the most recommendable Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which contains a large number of polyphenols. But how do we manage this? It’s simple – we make our product with fresh green olives which are harvested early on, since this is when they contain the largest amount of this compound.
Due to QvExtra!’s demanding parameters (which are more rigorous than the general regulations require) the produced oils naturally have a higher quantity of polyphenols at over 200 ppm (which is above average), a higher content of monounsaturated fatty acids at over 65%, and a fruitiness value above 4. All this is done to ensure that SIQEV EVOOs are excellent.
